奈良県出身。大学卒業後に放送作家としてキャリアをスタートし、1992年「ウゴウゴルーガ」でデビュー。以降、テレビ・映画・アニメなど幅広いジャンルを手がけてきた。近年は映画やドラマの企画・脚本で活躍。彼の作品の持ち味は、社会の片隅に生きる人々を独自の視点でユーモアと温かさをもって描き出す点にある。映画『his』(2020)では、ゲイカップルの親権裁判という社会的問題を取り上げ、国内外で高い評価を得た。つづく映画『そばかす』(2022)では恋愛に興味のない主人公を繊細かつコミカルに描き、第45回ヨコハマ映画祭で脚本賞を受賞。そして、ゲーム業界で働くレズビアン女性の恋とキャリアを描いたドラマ『チェイサーゲームW』(2024)は、深夜ドラマにも関わらず大きな反響を呼び、中国・韓国・台湾などアジア全域に熱烈なファンを生んだ。
Born in Nara Prefecture. After graduating from university, he began his career as a broadcast writer, making his debut in 1992 with “Ugougoruga.” Since then, he has worked across a wide range of genres including television, film, and anime. In recent years, he has been active in planning and writing scripts for films and dramas. His work is characterized by its unique perspective, portraying people living on the margins of society with humor and warmth. His film “his” (2020) tackled the social issue of a gay couple's custody battle, earning high praise both domestically and internationally. His subsequent film “I Am What I Am” (2022) delicately and comically portrayed a protagonist uninterested in romance, winning the Screenplay Award at the 45th Yokohama Film Festival. Furthermore, the drama “Chaser Game W” (2024), depicting the love and career of a lesbian woman working in the gaming industry, generated significant buzz despite being a late-night drama, garnering passionate fans across Asia, including China, South Korea, and Taiwan.
